Although William G. Higgins was born in Muscatine, Iowa in 1865, he didn’t get to San Antonio, Texas until 1906. But as a resident of that city for 40 plus years, he certainly made his presence known. “Col.” Higgins joined the San Antonio Founder Lions Club and served as its president for eight years. He was the founder of Lionism in Mexico and served as District Governor of that country for several years. Although serving as the First Vice-President of LCI for two years and Second Vice-President for one year, becoming the ultimate president was denied him by an action behind the scenes, something that had never happened before or has happened since. Nevertheless, Higgins never let that disappointment deter him from continuing his service for the good of Lionism. Despite his many years of dedicated service, it is puzzling that he is not to be found in the Texas Lions Hall of Fame.
